In this talk%2C I will describe a highly successful informal training that has emerged in recent years called Hackweeks. These hackathon-style events place a strong focus on cultivating data science literacy%2C building a community of practice%2C and developing resources within an existing domain-specific community. By bringing together researchers from many different universities to address methods challenges within a research domain%2C Hackweeks take advantage of a shared language and shared scientific objectives. The Hackweek structure is designed to foster collaboration and learning among people from various stages of their career and technical abilities%2C and catalyze a community through a shared interest in solving computational challenges within a field %28Huppenkothen et al%2C 2018%29. Hackweeks originally came out of the Astronomy community %28Astro Hack Week%2C entering its 6th year in 2019%29 and the model has been successfully propagated to%3A neuroscience %28Neurohackweek%2C now a 2-week NIH-funded program called Neurohackademy%29%2C geospatial sciences %28Geohackweek%29%2C oceanography %28Oceanhackweek%29%2C and more." and speaker = "Micaela Parker" sorted by title descending
